Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty

The eyes, our unique and beautiful features, reveal so much about ourselves. Blepharoplasty, a procedure designed to extract a surplus of skin from the eyelids, rejuvenates the region. It's important to note that with age, the muscles supporting the eyelids naturally begin to weaken, and the eyelids start to stretch. As a result, extra skin and fat accumulate above and underneath the eyelids, which may cause the eyebrows to sag and lead to bags under the eyes. Sagging, heavy skin around the eyes can affect peripheral vision, impacting the outside and upper visual regions.

How do you perform a blepharoplasty?

Upper Blepharoplasty

During an upper blepharoplasty, the surgeon carefully creates incisions within the natural folds of the upper eyelids. These minute incisions are precise and carefully concealed, mainly when opening the eyes. Afterwards, a surplus of skin and fat is removed, and the incisions are closed.

Lower Blepharoplasty

A lower blepharoplasty involves creating an incision just beneath the lower eyelash line. The surgeon prepares to remove a surplus of skin within the lower eyelid through this incision. Furthermore, an incision may be concealed within the lower eyelid, known as the transconjunctival incision, to fix issues affecting the lower eyelid and even out or extract extra fat.

Is a blepharoplasty a quick surgical procedure?

The duration of the procedure is entirely dependent on the patient’s unique circumstances. Usually, the procedure can last anywhere between forty-five minutes to an hour, depending on their health status and history of surgical procedures. It may take longer if both eyelids are worked on simultaneously.

What can I anticipate after a blepharoplasty?

Stitches, meticulously concealed, remain in the eyelids until they are ready to be removed. If the incisions are made inside the eyelids, there won’t be any need for stitches. Expect bruising and swelling in these delicate regions, but rest assured, this should subside over time with proper post-operative care guidance.
